New Community Minibus - 29th September 2009
The Cartmell Community Minibus Ltd has been provided with a new £37,000 minibus for the town. The Minibus was handed over to them by Malmesbury League of Friends, which provided a large chunk of the funding.
The minibus has 16 seats and is equipped with specialist gear for the disabled, There are plans to send the old minibus out to South Africa where it will be used to transport children at a school for the disabled.
Residents of Athelstan House are expected to make most use of the new bus, but the company is keen to offer it to other organisations that simply have to provide a competent driver.
"It is a fantastic bus," said secretary Derek Tilney. "For the driver it is so much easier to remove the seats and install wheelchairs without making it a physical chore. There is a fingertip-operated hoist. It means that people can be treated with dignity."
