Minibus Transport Service Scrapped - 26th August 2010
A minibus transport service in Buckinghamshire for the elderly and disabled has been scrapped despite an outcry from local people and those who rely on the minibus service to get around.
Council leaders have gone ahead with the closure, despite a campaign to keep the minibus service in operation, the scheme will now be run by a private minibus operator raising fears about the cost and quality of the service in the future.
The main reason for the closure of the minibus service was the level of expenditure required to keep it running and concerns about how it was managed.
The minibus service used passenger assistants, who helped people in and out of their homes and onto the minibus, the new private minibus operator has promised to keep the assistants to help travellers on their journey.
Minibus drivers who have been made redundant due to the closure have been promised a payment of £1000 to help them retrain to obtain a PCV licence.
